Noida, July 1, 2024: Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) held its inaugural pre-bid meeting for its first Coal Gasification project. This meeting, held in Noida, attracted representatives from eight potential bidders, providing a collaborative platform for in-depth discussions, clarifications, and essential information dissemination regarding the project.
Under the strategic guidance of the Ministry of Coal, BCGCL issued tenders for three Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) packages. The tenders for LSTK-2 were floated on May 30, followed by LSTK-3 and LSTK-4 on June 14. These tenders are crucial for finalizing the Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR), which is vital for the project’s progression.
The Government of India has approved an investment and the formation of a joint venture company between Coal India Limited (CIL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), with CIL holding a 51% stake. As a result, BCGCL, a subsidiary of CIL, was established to pursue coal-to-chemicals operations.
BCGCL is making significant strides in its maiden Coal Gasification Project, to be located in the Lakhanpur area of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) in Odisha. The project has reached key milestones with the recent issuance of tenders, marking a significant step towards its realization.
This meeting and the project’s ongoing developments underscore BCGCL’s commitment to advancing coal-to-chemicals technology in India, positioning the country as a leader in this innovative sector.
