Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has achieved a milestone by delivering the first trainset for the Meerut Metro project. The train was manufactured in Alstom’s factory located in Savli, Gujarat, showcasing India’s capability in producing advanced transportation solutions domestically.

These newly delivered trains boast state-of-the-art design features, allowing for safe speeds of up to 135 km/h, with an operational speed of 120 km/h. Notably, the Meerut Metro is not only one of the fastest metro systems in the country but also the first to introduce an aerodynamic front, setting a new standard for metro design in India.
Inaugural Ceremony and Project Details
The inaugural ceremony for the first trainset took place at Alstom’s manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The event was attended by dignitaries including Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Honble Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs & Petroleum & Natural Gas (virtually), Shri. Vinay Kumar Singh, Managing Director – NCRTC, and Oliver Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India.
The Meerut Metro project, a Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), will cover a 25-km stretch, including both elevated and underground sections, with 11 stations connecting Partapur to Modipuram. Additionally, it will provide connectivity to the first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in India, linking Delhi and Meerut. Alstom will supply 30 coaches configured into 10 trainsets of three cars each to serve this line.
