Government Approves 7 Mega Integrated Textile Parks to Boost Indian Industry

Kalaburagi to be the one among the approved 7 Mega Integrated Textile Parks

In a significant move to bolster the Indian textile industry, the government has given the green light to establish seven Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks.

These parks will be developed on Greenfield/Brownfield sites and boast world-class infrastructure, including a plug-and-play facility. The total investment for this ambitious project is set at Rs. 4,445 crore.

Objectives of Mega Integrated Textile Parks (PM MITRA)

The PM MITRA Parks initiative aims to enhance the textile industry’s strength by facilitating large-scale operations, reducing logistics costs through the consolidation of the entire value chain in one location.

Additionally, the scheme seeks to attract investments, create job opportunities, and boost the export potential of the industry. The integrated infrastructure will cover various aspects of the textile value chain, such as spinning, weaving, processing, garmenting, and textile manufacturing.

Key Highlights

  • Investment Projection: These Mega Parks are anticipated to attract nearly Rs. 70,000 crore in investments.
  • Geographical Spread: The government received 18 proposals from 13 states, including a submission from Rajasthan. Seven sites have been finalized for PM MITRA Parks, covering Tamil Nadu (Virudhnagar), Telangana (Warangal), Gujarat (Navsari), Karnataka (Kalaburagi), Madhya Pradesh (Dhar), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow), and Maharashtra (Amravati).

Current Status

  • Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV): Special Purpose Vehicles have been incorporated in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. The formation process of SPVs in Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu is at an advanced stage, and initiation has begun in other states.
  • Union Minister’s Statement: Union Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh, provided this information in a written reply during the Lok Sabha session.

The establishment of these PM MITRA Parks signifies a strategic move towards consolidating and strengthening the textile industry, fostering economic growth, and positioning India as a key player in the global textile market.
