The Deputy Chief Project Manager for Signals and Telecommunications, SWR under the Gati Shakti initiative, has called for electronic tenders (E-Tenders) to conduct a feasibility survey.
This survey aims to explore the feasibility of shifting the existing railway alignment or constructing an underground passage on the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar section, particularly between kilometers 8/147 to 12/576 near Mysore Airport.

Need for Realignment
The current railway alignment traversing the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar route finds itself in close proximity to Mysore Airport’s operational area. This has posed challenges in obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for installing Overhead Equipment (OHE) necessary for electrification.

Concerns Raised by AAI
AAI has raised significant concerns regarding the potential interference of Indian Railways’ overhead electric lines and train movements with aircraft radar and Instrument Landing System (ILS) signals. Such interference poses risks to the safe operation of aircraft using the airport.
Proposal for Induction Shielding or Realignment of the Railway Track
In addressing these concerns, Member of Parliament Shri. Pratap Simha suggested exploring the concept of Induction Shielding during a meeting of the Mysuru Divisional Gati Shakti initiative. This concept, successfully implemented by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) near Chennai airport, aims to mitigate electromagnetic interference between railway infrastructure and airport operations.
The MP also proposed realigning the railway stretch if induction shielding is found to be unfeasible, ensuring safe operating distances from the airport boundary. This realignment aims to mitigate risks and secure approvals from the AAI for necessary installations.
The initiation of the feasibility survey marks a proactive step by South Western Railway (SWR) to ensure the safety and efficiency of railway operations in the vicinity of Mysore Airport.
