It was a significant day for renewable energy in India. The Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, remotely inaugurated 51 solar power plants. These plants belong to Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL).
The event took place in Ranchi as part of the ongoing Special Campaign 4.0. These rooftop solar power plants have a total capacity of 2.428 Mega Watts (MW), marking a crucial step in BCCL’s efforts to promote sustainable energy and reduce carbon emissions.
Minister’s Remarks on Sustainability
During the inauguration, Minister Shri Satish Chandra Dubey praised BCCL’s commitment to renewable energy. He emphasized that the installation of these rooftop solar plants is an excellent example of using unused building spaces efficiently. The minister highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering a greener and more self-reliant India.
BCCL’s Commitment to Renewable Energy
Shri Samiran Dutta, CMD of BCCL, expressed pride in the company’s advancements in renewable energy. He stated that this achievement demonstrates BCCL’s dedication to meeting the nation’s coking coal needs. It also ensures sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
Dutta reaffirmed that the new solar plants align with BCCL’s long-term vision for a greener future. They contribute to India’s broader renewable energy goals.
Future Plans for Solar Projects
BCCL is a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL). It is the largest producer of coking coal in India. It plays a vital role in the “Mission Coking Coal” under the Aatmnirbhar Bharat initiative. Currently, 1.66 MW of rooftop solar plants have already been installed at various locations.
BCCL has plans for a 3 MW rooftop solar plant. This is in addition to the newly inaugurated plants. The project is scheduled for the financial year 2024-25. Moreover, a 20 MW ground-mounted solar project is underway at Dugdha Washery. It is expected to be completed by 2024. A 25 MW ground-mounted project at Bhojudih Coal Washery is set to finish by March 2025.
