Train Travel Time Concerns
Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) submitted a memorandum to Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar. The memorandum outlines several concerns regarding the current railway services.
One of the major issues highlighted is the slowdown of the 17326 Mysuru-Belagavi Vishwamanava Express from October 2023. The slowdown has increased its journey time between Mysuru and Bengaluru to 3 hours. MGP suggests rescheduling the train’s departure from Mysuru Junction to 6:05 AM to restore its speed and efficiency and also it avoids crossing of Chennai Mysuru Vande Bharat express.
The NGO requested a swap between the daily 12610 Mysuru-MGR Chennai Intercity and weekly 16217 Mysuru-Sai Nagar Shirdi Express departure at Mysuru Jn. This swap aims to ease travel for daily commuters and IT employees commuting from Mysuru to Bengaluru and Bengaluru’s Whitefield.
Chamundi Express Facing Delays
The 16215 Mysuru-KSR Bengaluru Chamundi Express frequently experiences delays due to interruptions by the 06256 MEMU train. To prevent further delays, MGP has recommended a reschedule for the Chamundi Express. It should leave Mysuru at 7:00 AM for uninterrupted travel.
Reduction in Travel Time between Mysuru and Bengaluru
The double railway line between Mysuru and Bengaluru is electrified. However, trains still take over 3 hours to cover the distance. MGP urges Indian Railways to bring down the travel time for express trains to 2 hours 40 minutes. They also urge to reduce the travel time for superfast trains to 2 hours 20 minutes.
Proposed New Services
The memorandum also emphasizes the demand for introduction of a tri-weekly train connecting Chamarajanagar to Bidar. The train would pass through important industrial and tourist hubs like Mysuru, Hassan, and Kalaburagi, significantly boosting local economic activity.
Introduction of daily Mysuru-Mumbai train service has been proposed. Bi-Weekly Mysuru-Rajkot train service has also been proposed. These services aim to improve connectivity. They also support Karnataka’s growing industrial and tourism sectors.
Infrastructure Development Requests
MGP also highlighted the need for infrastructure improvements. Key requests include the early operationalization of the remodelled Ashokapuram Railway Station with extension of MEMU and PFTR trains. They also include the early implementation of doubling work between Mysuru Junction and Ashokapuram. Lastly, they request the realignment of the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar railway line near Mysore Airport to ensure safety.
The NGO also called for the development of a MEMU terminal at Naganahalli Railway Station. A new crossing station at Kavalande. They also recommended stabling lines with secondary maintenance facilities at Chamarajanagar Railway Station. These developments aim to support increased rail services in the region.
These proposals, if implemented, will enhance connectivity, support local industries, and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
