The Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) is charting new territories in the state’s digital landscape by setting up a groundbreaking “Global Technology Centre” Plug & Play facility in Mysuru with 3000 seater capacity. The plug and play center will come up at the existing Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Academic Bhavan in Mandakalli. This endeavor is a part of KDEM’s Beyond Bengaluru program, designed to catalyze the growth of the digital economy in regions beyond the bustling tech metropolis of Bengaluru.
Establishing the Global Technology Centre in Mysuru
Nestled within the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) in Mysuru, the Global Technology Centre will occupy a sprawling 200,000 square feet, inclusive of parking facilities, on a 10-acre plot in Mandakalli Village. This substantial facility has been leased to KDEM for a 30-year term, ensuring a long-term commitment to fostering technological innovation in Mysuru. Objectives and Vision
The vision for the Global Technology Centre is ambitious and multifaceted. It seeks to establish world-class facilities dedicated to the development and proliferation of products and services in key areas of the digital economy, including IT/ITES, FSDM, and AR/VR. By creating a shared space equipped with cutting-edge technology, the centre will serve as a hub for industry leaders, startups, and academic institutions to collaborate and innovate.
The centre’s infrastructure is designed to support the dynamic needs of incoming companies, offering flexible workspace options on a Plug & Play basis or a bare-shell basis. This flexibility is crucial for fostering an environment where innovative technology can flourish. By nurturing such innovations, the centre aims to facilitate the creation of new startups and, consequently, generate high-quality jobs in the Mysuru region.
In addition to fostering innovation, the Global Technology Centre places a strong emphasis on education and skill development. Governance and Sustainability
The governance of the Global Technology Centre will be overseen by a committee chaired by the ACS/Principal Secretary/Secretary of the Department of Electronics, IT, BT, and S&T. This committee will include representatives from KSOU, KDEM, KITS, and key industry players, ensuring a collaborative approach to managing the facility. The centre’s 3,000-seater operational workspace is designed to be self-sustainable, with revenue generated through rentals and other means.
