Mumbai, India – March 05, 2025: JSW Steel, India’s largest steel producer, has achieved a major milestone by securing the ResponsibleSteel™ Certification for four of its manufacturing sites – Vijaynagar (Karnataka), Dolvi and Tarapur (Maharashtra), and Salem (Tamil Nadu).
This recognition reinforces JSW Steel’s dedication to sustainable steel production, responsible sourcing, and environmental stewardship. Over 80% of the company’s primary steel production now comes from ResponsibleSteel™ certified sites, marking a significant step toward a greener future.

ResponsibleSteel™ is the global steel industry’s first multi-stakeholder certification that ensures companies meet high standards in climate action, human rights, diversity, and responsible sourcing. JSW Steel’s achievement is a testament to its commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.
Jayant Acharya, Joint MD & CEO of JSW Steel, emphasized that this certification aligns with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation (“Vikshit Bharat”) by 2047.

A Global Recognition for Indian Steel Industry
Annie Heaton, CEO of ResponsibleSteel, highlighted that 29% of India’s steel capacity is now certified under the ResponsibleSteel standard. She commended JSW’s leadership in adopting global benchmarks for a sustainable steel industry.
Bureau Veritas, the independent certification body, also lauded JSW Steel for its achievement. Surachet Tanwongsval, EVP, Asia Pacific, reaffirmed Bureau Veritas’ commitment to supporting responsible steelmaking.
