In a groundbreaking move towards eco-mobility advancement, Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, has joined forces with JBM Auto Ltd., the nation’s foremost electric bus manufacturer, to fabricate over 500 energy-efficient stainless steel electric buses. This collaboration marks a significant step in revolutionizing sustainable transportation in India.

Benefits of Stainless Steel in Electric Buses

Under this partnership, Jindal Stainless will supply JT Tubes, crafted from low-carbon, chromium-manganese austenitic stainless steel, denoted as N7 in Bureau of Indian Standards specification 6911, to JBM Auto. These tubes boast three times the strength of the carbon steel conventionally utilized in bus fabrication. JBM Auto, with an extensive order book of over 5000 electric buses, is transitioning towards fabricating its buses from carbon steel to stainless steel, resulting in lighter vehicles, enhanced performance, and increased durability.

Statements

Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “We are delighted to contribute to shaping the future of sustainable mobility in India. Lighter vehicles improve energy consumption, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector. Additionally, the corrosion-resistant nature of stainless steel mitigates the need for regular repairs and maintenance, thereby emerging as the most cost-effective solution over the lifecycle. Through our collaboration with JBM Auto, we aim to further our mission of promoting greener modes of public transport.”
