New Delhi, August 21, 2024 – In a significant move towards enhancing the indigenisation of critical marine engineering equipment, the Indian Navy has partnered with BEML Ltd., a premier defence and heavy engineering manufacturer under the Ministry of Defence. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on August 20, 2024, at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi.

Key Figures and Ceremony

The MoU was signed by Rear Admiral K. Srinivas, Assistant Chief of Materiel (Design and Research), representing the Indian Navy, and Shri Ajit Kumar Srivastav, Director of Defence at BEML Ltd. The agreement marks a crucial step forward in bolstering bilateral cooperation between the Indian Navy and BEML Ltd. for the indigenous design, development, manufacturing, testing, and product support of vital marine engineering equipment and systems.

Advancing Aatmanirbhar Bharat

This partnership aligns with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to foster self-reliance in defence production and reduce dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). By focusing on indigenisation, the Indian Navy and BEML Ltd. are set to enhance the country’s capabilities in producing advanced marine engineering solutions domestically, thereby reinforcing national security and economic resilience.
