Hitachi Energy India Ltd. has announced a Rs 300 crore investment to expand its Mysuru manufacturing facility, marking a major step in sustainable energy innovation. The facility will host the world’s first fossil-free pressboard production line, doubling output of transformer insulation materials to meet rising demand in India and global markets.
The expansion, scheduled for completion by 2027, will replace fossil-fuel boilers with 100% fossil-free process heat and electricity, making the site one of the most sustainable insulation manufacturing hubs in the world. This investment is part of Hitachi Energy India’s larger ₹2,000 crore India growth plan, announced in 2024.
“With this expansion, we’re proud to support India’s growing grid and renewable energy integration,” said N Venu, Managing Director & CEO, Hitachi Energy India. “It will also strengthen the local energy ecosystem for a sustainable future.”

Helmut Bockshammer, Global Product Group Manager for Transformers Insulation and Components, added, “By localizing production, we’re boosting reliability, securing supply chains, and supporting the shift to renewables.”
Globally, demand for electricity is surging, and transformers remain the backbone of power grids. High-quality pressboard insulation plays a crucial role in ensuring safety, preventing short circuits, and stabilizing high-voltage transmission.
The Mysuru expansion will help address the shortage of transformer-grade pressboard, catering not just to India but also to international markets including the U.A.E., Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Korea, and South Africa.
This milestone reinforces Hitachi Energy India’s leadership in green manufacturing, while meeting both domestic and international energy needs with innovative, low-carbon solutions.
