Delhi, June 3, 2024: Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) and Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore and leverage their combined infrastructure and expertise in providing comprehensive logistics solutions. The signing ceremony took place in Delhi, attended by senior officials from both organizations.
CONCOR is a leading logistics service provider in India, known for its extensive fleet of container trains and a wide network of container terminals across the country. It plays a pivotal role in India’s logistics sector, ensuring efficient transportation of goods across various regions. On the other hand, SCI is the only Indian shipping company that offers a diverse range of services, including break-bulk, international container, liquid and dry bulk, offshore, and passenger services. With a strong presence in the international shipping arena, SCI brings a wealth of experience in maritime logistics.
Key Areas of Collaboration
The primary goal of this partnership is to harness the strengths of both companies to provide seamless, cost-effective, end-to-end logistics services to customers through a single window. By combining CONCOR’s extensive rail and terminal infrastructure with SCI’s maritime capabilities, the collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency and reach of logistics services. This partnership will enable CONCOR to utilize SCI’s shipping services to expand its footprint internationally, offering comprehensive logistics solutions that extend beyond Indian borders.
The collaboration will also explore opportunities in coastal and inland waterways trade, aiming to provide a wider range of customizable logistics solutions. This move is expected to benefit the trade community by offering more versatile and efficient transport options. Both companies will work together to provide integrated logistics solutions that cover ocean, rail, road, and inland waterways transportation. This holistic approach will ensure port-to-last-mile connectivity, enhancing the overall logistics experience for customers.
By leveraging each other’s strengths, CONCOR and SCI aim to offer multimodal transportation solutions, making use of diverse transport modes to optimize logistics operations and reduce costs. Shri Sanjay Swarup, CMD of CONCOR, highlighted the significance of this MoU in expanding CONCOR’s operational scope. He stated that the MoU would enable CONCOR to utilize SCI’s shipping services to develop CONCOR’s footprint at overseas locations and to foray into the field of coastal and inland waterways trade. This collaboration will offer a wide range of customizable logistics solutions for the benefit of trade at large.
