Chennai, June 28, 2024 – Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU), has solidified its position as a key player in India’s defence manufacturing sector by securing a significant contract with Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL). The contract, valued at INR 3,172 crores, was formalized at a signing ceremony held at AVNL’s headquarters in Chennai. The agreement marks a pivotal step in upgrading the Indian Army’s BMP 2/2K tanks, a crucial component of India’s armoured warfare capability.

The project involves the supply and installation of an advanced, indigenously developed Sighting and Fire Control System (FCS) for the BMP 2/2K tanks, a key element of the Indian Army’s mechanized infantry. This sophisticated FCS is expected to significantly enhance the tanks’ target acquisition, accuracy, and overall combat effectiveness. Alongside the FCS, BEL will provide a comprehensive Engineering Support Package to ensure the smooth integration and long-term operational efficiency of the upgraded systems.

Speaking on the occasion, BEL representatives highlighted the strategic importance of this contract in enhancing India’s defence capabilities with advanced, homegrown technology. The upgraded FCS will not only modernize the existing fleet of BMP 2/2K tanks but also contribute to India’s goal of self-reliance in defence technology.
