Hyderabad, January 18, 2024: In a significant move towards supporting the ‘Skill India’ initiative, Airbus has teamed up with Tata-owned Air India to establish a state-of-the-art pilot training center in Gurugram, Haryana. The joint venture, named the Tata Airbus Training Centre, aims to provide top-notch training for pilots, with a focus on the A320 and A350 aircraft.
Tata Airbus Training Centre Overview
The training center, spanning an expansive 3,300 square meters, is set to become operational in early 2025. It will house 10 Full Flight Simulators (FFS), flight training classrooms, as well as briefing and debriefing rooms. Over the next decade, the center aims to train approximately 5,000 new pilots, offering courses approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
GMR Partnership for Maintenance Crew Training
In addition to the pilot training center, Airbus has collaborated with GMR Aero Technic to provide Aircraft Maintenance Engineering training courses. These courses will take place at the GMR facility in Hyderabad. Airbus will contribute training materials, including handbooks, examination databases, and online access to customized training modules. The partnership also involves training GMR instructors and continual assessment of the training center.
Airbus Responds to India’s Growing Aviation Industry
India’s aviation sector is rapidly expanding, and Airbus recognizes the increasing demand for skilled professionals. Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, stated, “As the fastest expanding aviation market in the world, India will need 41,000 pilots and 47,000 technicians in the next 20 years to support this growth.” The partnerships with Air India and GMR are a testament to Airbus’ commitment to fostering human capital and ensuring a steady supply of skilled manpower.
Holistic Ecosystem Development
These initiatives align with Airbus’ broader ambition to develop a comprehensive aerospace ecosystem in India. The company is already involved in various aspects, including aircraft assembly, component manufacturing, engineering design and development, MRO support, pilot and maintenance training, and academic collaboration. Airbus is working with institutions like Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, IIT Kanpur, and IISc Bengaluru to groom talent for the Indian aerospace sector.
Airbus is taking proactive steps to contribute to the growth of the Indian aviation industry by directly investing in and operating training capabilities, emphasizing the importance of developing a skilled workforce alongside industry expansion.
