Modi highlighted Tamil Nadu’s growing prominence as a key maritime trade hub. “With three major ports and seventeen non-major ports, Tamil Nadu has become a major hub for maritime trade,” he noted.
This expansion of port facilities is part of a larger effort to enhance India’s maritime capabilities. The effort includes a Rs 7,000 crore investment in an Outer Harbour Container Terminal.

The Prime Minister also emphasized India’s commitment to sustainable development. The V.O.C. Port is set to be a Green Hydrogen hub. It will also be a central port for offshore wind energy.
