Gurugram, May 21, 2024 – RITES Limited, a leading engineering consultancy firm and the export arm of Indian Railways, has secured a significant contract to supply 200 Broad Gauge (BG) passenger carriages to Bangladesh Railways. The contract, valued at $111.26 million (approx. Rs 915 crore), is funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and was awarded through a global competitive bidding process.
Key Contract Details
- Supply Period: 36 months, followed by a 24-month warranty period.
- Scope of Work: Besides the supply of passenger carriages, RITES will provide design expertise, spare parts support, and training.
Signing Ceremony
The agreement was signed in Dhaka on Monday in the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Bangladesh, Md. Zillul Hakim. Officials from RITES and Bangladesh Railway participated in the ceremony.
RITES’ Ongoing Partnership with Bangladesh
This contract highlights RITES’ ongoing commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s infrastructure development. Previously, RITES has supplied:
- 120 BG Passenger Coaches (LHB type)
- 36 BG Locomotives
- 10 Meter Gauge Locomotives
Additionally, RITES has collaborated on various other infrastructure projects in Bangladesh.
