Mumbai, May 15, 2024 — Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) today celebrates an extraordinary milestone, marking 250 years of its illustrious journey. From its inception as a modest dry dock in 1774, MDL has evolved into a premier shipbuilding yard under the stewardship of the Government of India since 1960. This momentous occasion was commemorated with a series of significant events, underscoring MDL’s resilience, growth, and enduring legacy.
Shri Giridhar Aramane, IAS, Defence Secretary, inaugurated the newly acquired contiguous piece of land from the Mumbai Port Authority. This facility is poised to enhance MDL’s capacity for simultaneous construction and outfitting of new builds, as well as repairs and refits of various vessels, thereby increasing operational bandwidth.
