Belagavi, Karnataka – 6 March 2025 – Magellan Aerospace Corporation (“Magellan”) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Aequs Private Limited (“Aequs”) to explore the establishment of a 50/50 jointly-owned aerospace sand casting facility in Karnataka, India. The proposed facility, to be located at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster (BAC), aims to address the increasing demand for sand casting in the aerospace industry, catering to both commercial and defense sectors.
India currently has a limited number of NADCAP-certified sand casting facilities, making this venture a significant step toward enhancing aerospace manufacturing capabilities in Southeast Asia. Magellan, a leader in sand casting technologies in North America, brings expertise in advanced processes like 3D sand printing, robotics, and automated differential pressure bottom pouring.
This collaboration builds on the longstanding partnership between Magellan and Aequs, which previously established Aerospace Processing India (API) in 2007, the first third-party facility approved by Airbus and Boeing in India. In 2024, the two companies also explored a joint venture for aircraft engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul in Karnataka.
Aravind Melligeri, Chairman and CEO of Aequs, highlighted the alignment of this initiative with their commitment to delivering world-class manufacturing processes. “This facility will enhance our vertically integrated capabilities at the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster and meet the aerospace industry’s demand for lightweight, robust components,” he said.

Phillip Underwood, President and CEO of Magellan Aerospace, emphasized the strategic importance of this venture. “With India’s growing aerospace and aviation sector, this facility will focus on infrastructure development, cost advantages, and capacity increases to meet global demands,” he stated.
The Indian aerospace sector has seen significant growth over the past decade, driven by government initiatives like Make in India and the UDAN Scheme, alongside rising air traffic. This new facility is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting India’s position as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the world.
