Inauguration of Yelahanka Gas-Based Power Plant

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has emphasized that Karnataka must achieve self-sufficiency in power generation. This is necessary to ensure the state’s economic and social progress.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Yelahanka Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), the state’s first gas-based power plant with a capacity of 370 MW, Siddaramaiah explained that the state has its first gas-based power plant with a capacity of 370 MW.

He said the increased power generation is essential for growth in agriculture. It is also essential for the industrial sector. This, in turn, boosts Karnataka’s GDP.

Powering Key Sectors

The CM pointed out that agriculture, industries, and housing sectors require substantial electricity for their operations. He stated that with the development of these sectors, employment opportunities will rise, further accelerating economic growth.

“Employment is created through agricultural and industrial development. Employment drives GDP growth. We are moving towards becoming fully self-sufficient in power generation,” he added.

Electricity Surplus and Future Goals

Despite last year’s drought, Karnataka managed to meet its electricity demands. The CM noted that they even sold electricity worth Rs 1500 crore outside the state.

The goal, according to Siddaramaiah, is to generate 60,000 MW of electricity by 2030, as outlined in the state budget. This increased production will support growing energy consumption and allow the state to maintain its surplus power generation status.

Inauguration and Worker Bonus

Siddaramaiah also recalled that the foundation for the Yelahanka power plant was laid by his government. He said it was fitting that the same government inaugurated the facility.

In recognition of the workers’ efforts, the CM announced a Rs 5000 bonus. This bonus is for all employees involved in the construction of the Yelahanka Power Plant. Additionally, measures are being taken to reduce noise generated by the plant, ensuring a more community-friendly operation.
