Indian Navy to establish a full fledged Naval Air Station at Karwar

Civil works will be taken up at an approximate cost of INR 2870 Crore.

The Indian Navy plans to establish a Naval Air Base at Karwar (Karnataka), located about 120 km south of Panjim, Goa.The Project is to be executed at the Karwar Naval Base which spans over a large geographical area along the seacoast.

The total area of the site is approximately 1405 acres. The site is marginally undulated with high terrain on the southeast side of the site. The national highway, NH-17, runs along the east side of the site.

The following facilities are planned at the NAS

Runway, Taxiways, Aprons, Hangar buildings, ATC tower, Station admin building and other associated ancillary buildings including related common facilities (MEP) and site infrastructure utilities works (drainage, water supply, sewerage network & electrical works) including runway lighting.

Development of a greenfield Naval Air Station (NAS) is one of the key elements of Project Seabird Phase IIA. Development of NAS will involve construction of a fully operational and capable airfield with associated infrastructure and a wide range of facilities which support the air operations.
