Chennai Metro Awards Rs. 53.02 Crore Contract
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has signed a contract worth Rs. 53.02 crores for the design, manufacturing, and operation of a self-propelled rail grinding machine. The contract was awarded to M/s HARSCO RAIL LLC, USA. This machine is equipped with a minimum of 8 stones. It is designed to maintain and improve rail quality across the Chennai Metro network.
Key Details of the Contract
The contract was signed on July 19, 2024. It includes the supply and commissioning of the machine. The contract also covers its operation and maintenance for four years. Senior officials from CMRL, including Director (Projects) T. Archunan, and Managing Director of M/s HARSCO RAIL LLC, USA, Siddharth Srinivasan, were present at the signing ceremony.
Purpose of the Rail Grinding Machine
Rail grinding machines are crucial for maintaining metro tracks. These machines restore the shape of the rails by removing surface defects.
