Bengaluru – BEML Limited, a premier rolling stock manufacturer, has secured a contract from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, to design, manufacture, and commission two high-speed trainsets yesterday. Each trainset will comprise eight cars, marking a crucial step in India’s push towards a modern, efficient rail network.
Key Details of the Contract
BEML will deliver the project at a total cost of ₹866.87 Cr, with each car priced at ₹27.86 Cr. The deal includes various non-recurring charges such as the cost of design, one-time development, and tooling required for future high-speed rail projects. The trainsets will be designed to achieve a test speed of 280 kmph, making them the first indigenously designed high-speed trains in the country.

State-of-the-Art Features
The trainsets will be manufactured at BEML’s Bengaluru rail coach facility and are expected to be delivered by 2026. They will feature fully air-conditioned, Chair Car configurations with modern amenities such as:
- Reclining and rotatable seats
- Accessibility features for passengers with restricted mobility
- Onboard infotainment systems
These trains will offer a high level of passenger comfort while showcasing India’s growing capabilities in train manufacturing.
