Shivamogga: Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, held a comprehensive review meeting on the ongoing railway projects in Shivamogga. Local representatives, including Hon’ble MP Shri B. Y. Raghavendra and several MLAs and MLCs, joined SW railway and district officials to discuss current developments and future plans.
Major Railway Projects in Shivamogga
During the meeting, Shri V. Somanna provided a detailed update on several important railway projects in the region. These include the Shivamogga–Shikaripura–Ranibennur new line.
Other projects are the doubling of the Birur to Shivamogga Town line. Another project is the creation of world-class goods sheds at Shivamogga. He also highlighted plans to modernize 15 stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with a budget of Rs. 385 crores.
Upgrading Railway Infrastructure
Shri Somanna emphasized the importance of these railway projects in Shivamogga in enhancing connectivity and boosting the local economy.
Key upgrades include improvements at Shivamogga Town, Talguppa, and Sagarajambagaru stations. The redevelopment of Bhadravathi railway station is also a significant project. There is also a proposal for a new railway line between Talguppa and Honnavar.
Demands for New Train Services
Local representatives also put forward requests for new train services. These include the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express between Shivamogga Town and Bengaluru.
They also requested increasing the frequency and extending existing train services. These initiatives are expected to further enhance regional connectivity and provide better travel options for passengers.
