Gandhinagar, March 17, 2025 – In a groundbreaking move to combat the rising threat of AI-generated deception, Infibeam Avenues Ltd, a leading fintech company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. This strategic partnership aims to develop advanced real-time deepfake detection systems, enhancing digital security for governments, corporations, and organizations.

Deepfake technology, which creates hyper-realistic but false representations of individuals and events, has become a significant concern. It has been linked to misinformation, financial fraud, identity theft, and even corporate losses. A notable example occurred in January 2024, when a Hong Kong-based company lost $25 million to a deepfake scam involving fake executives in a live video call.

Under the MoU, Infibeam’s AI unit, Phronetic.AI, will collaborate with IISc’s Vision and AI Lab (VAL) to refine real-time deepfake detection algorithms. The partnership will focus on creating scalable, cost-effective solutions tailored for various industries, including banking, healthcare, and government sectors.

“Digital communications thrive on trust,” said Rajesh Kumar SA, CEO of Phronetic.AI. “This collaboration is a pivotal step in restoring that trust by equipping users with tools to differentiate between truth and fabrication.”

Infibeam has already filed a patent for its innovative real-time deepfake detection algorithm, which uses a novel interventional technique to identify deepfakes during live video conversations. The research will also prioritize user-friendly interfaces, making the technology accessible to non-experts.

“As Generative AI advances, deepfakes pose a significant challenge,” said Prof. Venkatesh Babu of IISc. “Proactive measures are essential to combat AI-generated misinformation.”

This initiative underscores the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures in an era of increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
