A Successful Joint Venture

Expansion to Global Markets
With growing production capabilities, the plant is now preparing to export over 1,000 locomotives to countries in Africa. This move aligns with India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiatives. It also highlights the plant’s ability to compete on a global scale. This positions India as a significant player in locomotive manufacturing.
History and Impact of Marhowra Plant
Established in 2018, the Marhowra Plant spans 70 acres and employs around 600 people. It has already produced over 650 locomotives, boosting the Indian Railways fleet. The success of this public-private partnership has also stimulated economic growth in the region. It has done so by expanding the local supplier network and creating more jobs.
Future Outlook
The Ministry of Railways and Wabtec are committed to enhancing the Marhowra Plant’s capabilities for long-term export production. The plant will begin exporting standard-gauge locomotives internationally. This will further contribute to India’s economy.
