First Milestone in Phase IV
Alstom has delivered its first Metropolis metro trainset to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). This delivery is part of the Phase IV expansion. The trainset was handed over from Alstom’s manufacturing facility in SriCity, Andhra Pradesh.
The trains are fully designed and produced in India under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
Driverless Technology and Local Manufacturing
These new metro trainsets are integrated with Grade of Automation (GOA) 4 driverless technology. The trains can operate at a speed of up to 85 km/h. Safety measures allow speeds up to 95 km/h.
All trainsets are manufactured locally, reflecting India’s push toward self-reliance in high-tech manufacturing.
Enhancing Metro Connectivity
The project aims to supply 52 trainsets. Each trainset has six cars. These will cover three lines. This includes two extensions of existing metro lines and the new Gold Line 10. The project will enhance the connectivity across the city, covering a total of 64.67 km.
Long-Term Impact
Valued at 312 million euros, the project includes a 15-year maintenance contract for 13 of the new trainsets. This marks the first time DMRC has outsourced metro maintenance to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). It signals a new approach to the city’s metro system upkeep.
